The parts department

The right part, at the right time

Our parts team operates exclusively in support of live workshop projects. Drawing on an extensive network of local and international suppliers built over decades, we source components to specification — keeping restoration timelines on track and expenditure under control.

This is not a retail operation. Every part that moves through our department is tied to a specific project and vehicle, managed end-to-end by our team.

When the part no longer exists, we make it

For parts that cannot be sourced — whether obsolete, unique to a specific build, or requiring modification — our team designs and produces them in-house. Modern 3D printing capability allows prototypes to be validated before committing to fabrication, reducing waste and refining the result.

Prototype parts are printed in-house to validate fit, form, and function before any commitment to material or machining cost. This removes uncertainty from the design stage and allows iterative refinement without expense.

Working closely with the Bodyshop and Workshop, we design modifications and bespoke components to suit a project’s specific requirements — from brackets and mounts to body panels and trim pieces.

Where originality is paramount, we produce faithful reproductions — researched against factory documentation and period references, manufactured to match the original in material, finish, and dimension.

Parts, Bodyshop, and Workshop operate as a single integrated workflow. When a fabricated part is needed, the brief moves directly between departments — no delays, no miscommunication, and full accountability at every stage.

inventory & provenance

Order kept with the same care as the work itself

A restoration can span months or years, and the integrity of a project depends on knowing exactly where every component sits at every stage. Parts are catalogued against their vehicle on entry, stored in conditions appropriate to their material, and tracked through our inventory system from strip-down to final fitment. Surplus and reusable items are retained and indexed — the same discipline applied to a one-off bracket as to a complete trim set.

Every part is logged against its vehicle and project reference, with condition and provenance recorded at the point of entry.

Parts are stored in conditions appropriate to their material — metal, rubber, trim, and electrical components, each handled with the care their longevity demands.

We work with a defined set of storage and inventory management partners — chosen for reliability, compatibility with our workflow, and the demands of long-term classic car projects.

Parts removed during strip-down are assessed, catalogued, and either retained for potential reuse or disposed of responsibly — nothing is lost to disorganisation.

common questions

FAQs

Can you source rare parts for a classic car restoration in North Yorkshire?

Yes, for cars we are restoring or maintaining. Our Parts Department in Malton works with more than 200 local and international suppliers, built up over decades. The team knows who stocks parts for rarer marques, who can work to tight tolerances, and when a reconditioned part is a better choice than a new one.

Where can I have obsolete classic car parts made in North Yorkshire?

When a part no longer exists, we make it in house in Malton for cars in our care. Working with our Bodyshop and Workshop, we design and produce brackets, mounts, body panels and trim pieces. Each one is researched against factory documentation and period references, and matched in material, finish and dimension.

Can I buy parts from the Parts Department?

No. The Parts Department doesn’t sell parts over the counter. It supplies only cars being worked on in our Workshop, Bodyshop and Trim Shop, and every part is tied to a specific car and project. If you are restoring a car and struggling to find parts, talk to us about taking on the work.

Do you 3D print classic car parts?

Yes, to prototype them. A part is 3D printed in-house and fitted to the car to test fit, form and function before any material or machining is committed. The final part is made only once the prototype has been approved.

Which marques can you source parts for?

Our specialisms are Jaguar, MG, Austin Healey and Jensen, and the team has worked on more than 100 marques. Our supplier network reaches rarer marques too, and where a part cannot be found, we can make it.

Do you fit new, reconditioned or original parts?

Whichever suits the car. Original parts removed during the strip down are assessed and reused wherever they can be. Where a replacement is needed, we choose between new and reconditioned on merit. We keep the car original wherever possible, and any departure from that is agreed with you.

What happens to the original parts removed from my car?

Every part removed during the strip down is logged against your car with its condition recorded. It is then assessed and either kept for reuse or disposed of responsibly.

How do you keep track of the parts for my car?

Every part is catalogued against your car and project when it arrives, stored according to its material (metal, rubber, trim or electrical) and tracked from strip down to fitment. Nothing is issued to the workshop until it has been logged in our inventory system.

How do you know a part is correct before it is fitted?

Sourced parts are checked against specification when they arrive, before they are logged and issued. Parts we make are prototyped and test fitted before the final part is approved.

Can you reproduce original decals and graphics?

Yes. Where the originals are no longer available, we design period correct graphics, liveries and decals in house, researched to the original specification.

How does a dedicated parts department benefit my restoration?

Our technicians stay on the car instead of chasing parts, and parts are sourced to the project timeline. Long supplier relationships, preferred pricing and forecasting help keep costs under control.

How do I start a project?

Call 01653 692090 or email sales@maltoncoachworks.com with details of your car and the work it needs. Parts are sourced and made as part of work in our Workshop, Bodyshop and Trimshop. We are open Monday to Thursday, 8.15am to 5pm, and Friday, 8.15am to 4pm.
